Social Enterprise

social

Social Enterprises are businesses driven by a social or environmental purpose.
The government defines social enterprise as “businesses with primarily social objectives whose surpluses are principally reinvested for that purpose or in the community, rather than being driven by the need to maximise profit for shareholders”.
It’s estimated that there are over 62,000 social enterprises in the UK.  Between them they contribute £24bn per year to the economy and employ approximately 800,000 people.

Thurrock Council is currently offering dedicated support to start-up, new and established Social Enterprises in Thurrock through our Low Carbon Business Programme. For more details on this please visit: http://www.lowcarbonbusiness.org.uk/index.php/about/social_enterprise
